Profile of Kiyoshi Hagiya

Born March 5, 1949 in Tsuchiura City, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. While still
a high school student, Kiyoshi Hagiya made his professional debut as a
guitarist with the Blue Impulse Band. Starting in 1973, he became involved
in studio work and recording activities. In addition to those activities, he
performed in concerts and went on tour as a member of the Takeshi Inomata
and the Sound Limited Band. In 1976, he studied at the Berklee College of
music in Boston. After returning to Japan in 1977, he resumed studio work
and participated in recordings with a number of different arrangers
including Norio Maeda, Hiroshi Miyagawa, Katsuhisa Hattori, and others.
Besides studio work, he gave live performances as a member of the Hideo
Ishikawa Group, Yuji Ono Expression Band, and Buster. During this period, he
worked with many other musicians such as George Kawaguchi, Shelly Manne, and
Sadao Watanabe, and did session work as well. At the same time, he formed
the Kiyoshi Hagiya Group, and wrote original songs, which he performed at live
concerts. At that time as well, he wrote the opening theme song for the Fuji
TV Quiz Grand Prix show, and began composing and arranging music for
commercial advertising.

1988 - Played with the Katsuhisa Hattori Orchestra's Fields of Music Concert in Las Vegas.
1992 - Appeared regularly on NHK's Ongaku wa Koibito [Music for Sweethearts]
          program with Kentaro Haneda.
1993 - Performed with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra in the People's
          Republic of China.
1994 - Started performing with the Meisho Miyakawagumi band.
1994 - Appeared regularly on NHK Sogo's Tokimeki Dream Sound music program.
1995 - March - Happy Birthday album released by Nihon Crown.
1995 - June - So Natural album released by Nihon Crown (recorded in New York)
1995 - Formed the Kiyoshi Hagiya Super Band. Guitar: Kiyoshi Hagiya, Piano:Nobuo Kurata
          Bass: Akira Okuzawa, Drums: Yuichi Tokashiki, Percussion:Makoto Kimura, Sax: Bob Zung.
1999 - October - Performed with the Meisho Miyakawagumi band at the Chicago
          Thompson Center.
2000 - December - Montgomery Land album released by Vega Music Entertainment.
Present - Kiyoshi Hagiya is currently active giving live performances and doing studio work.
